A Fresh Start

A Fresh Start

(Nothing quite says, "I need to be refreshed" like rolling four deep at Costco, in the middle of a torrential downpour!)

As a young girl, I always looked forward to the first day of school with great anticipation. I'm not one for change, but a new school year meant new teachers, new classmates, new school supplies, and most importantly, new school clothes! Not to mention, each year, you returned older and wiser, and moved up one more notch on the the food chain.

I could never fall asleep before the first day, because the anticipation and excitement of the new year was simply too much for me to bear!  I loved looking forward to the promise of a fresh start.

Fast forward to the spring, and I.  Wanted.  Out.  I found myself tired, overworked, and ready for summer. I struggled running towards the end of the year and finishing strong...it was more like a slow, sluggish walk across the finish line.

The good news? After a relaxing summer spent with friends by the pool, there was always the promise of another fresh start in the fall.  Each year, I had the chance to restart and begin again.

Today, as I continue to navigate the world of "adulting," often buried in the monotony and exhaustion that mothering four children under five can bring--the endless cycle of sweeping up Cheerios, changing diapers, paying bills, and grocery shopping, only to rinse and repeat-- I find myself longing for the luxury of a new, fresh start.  (And let's be honest, I wouldn't mind a few new school clothes, either!)

During the days where I long to hit the reset button and find a new system to get us all on track, I'm encouraged by a Bible verse that says:

"It is because of the Lord's mercy and loving-kindness that we are not consumed, because His (tender) compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great and abundant is Your stability and faithfulness."  Lamentations 3:22-23 (Amplified)

We might not get to start over every day, but when we feel depleted and running on empty, God can refresh our hearts with His love, stability, and faithfulness. God has the ability to turn our chaos back into order.  As we settle into another September, be encouraged that in every season, God's love rich, extensive, and renewing. Every morning, He offers us the fresh start that we long for.  Take a deep breath, and let God's love refresh your weary heart.
